Puzzle games that fit a five-minute commute

September 14, 2026 · Lukas Berger

Not every puzzle game respects a short commute. Some insist on tutorials, ads between every level, or a connection check before you can even tap a tile. For a five-minute window, that's a dealbreaker.

What works is a game that loads instantly and lets you pause anywhere. Gridlock Garden nails this — each level is self-contained, and closing the app mid-solve loses nothing.

I also look for an undo button. On a bumpy bus you will misclick, and a game that punishes that feels hostile. Generous undo turns a stressful tap into a harmless one.

Keep two or three of these installed and you'll never be stuck staring at a wall. Rotate them so the puzzles stay fresh.
